This Week’s Highlights – March 20, 2017

  • Cilantro – High heat has affected supplies.
  • Strawberries – The CA market is short due to the FL season ending; Mexico and CA are still recovering from rains.
  • Organic Spinach, Kale, Arugula – All are short due to mildew.
  • Romaine, Hearts & Leaf – Product is short due to fields coming to an end and transition on the horizon.
  • Onions – Prices on yellows are low and reds remain fairly steady; quality on all colors is very good.
  • Tomatoes – Roma & Round: supply continues to exceed demand; markets remain low in all regions and quality is very good.  REMINDER: DO NOT store tomatoes in the refrigerator.  Refrigeration causes tomatoes to lose their flavor and become mealy.
