This Week’s Highlights – February 6, 2017

  • Broccoli/Cauliflower – The market is active due to lighter supplies.
  • Lettuce – Markets are active with increasing demand and lighter supplies.
  • Snow Peas – Weather has affected availability; demand is good.
  • Strawberries – Market short due to continuing rains in CA; very strong demand due to Valentine’s Day pull.
  • Organic Spring Mix & Arugula – The market is short due to heavy mildew in fields.
  • Peppers – Green pepper supplies remain abundant from FL with very good quality and color.

This Week’s Highlights – January 30th, 2017

  • Lettuce – Iceberg: markets are rapidly moving up – quality is fair. Leaf & Romaine: quality is fair.
  • Squash – Markets are active as demand still exceeds supply. Cooler weather may slow production slightly, but should be back to normal later this week.
  • Melons – Cantaloupe: west coast 9’s and Jumbo 9’s are plentiful and quality is good with sugars around 15; small sizing (15’s) are almost nonexistent.
  • Onions – Record breaking snow and freezing rain in the Pacific Northwest has destroyed multiple storage and packing facilities and limited transportation, affecting availability and driving prices up.
  • Eggplant – Eggplant is plentiful, volume is good and quality is fair.

This Week’s Highlights – January 23, 2017

  • Onions – Record breaking rain and cold have affected availability, and prices are unsettled.
  • Green Onions – Rain and cold weather have affected supplies, coupled with strong demand.
  • Avocados – Quality is good with availability improving at this time.
  • Broccoli – Markets continue their upward trend. Quality is fair to good from Yuma and Mexico.
  • Asparagus – Asparagus remains a challenge on both coasts; overall supplies are still short.

This Week’s Highlights – January 16, 2017

  • Melons – Good supplies on large cantaloupes with smaller sizes limited; quality remains very good.
  • Eggplant – Readily available. Volume is good and quality is fair.
  • Tomatoes – FL round production has begun to slow until spring crop. Be aware of cheap prices from old red FL tomatoes – this product will be weak. Roma supply is increasing in East and West and quality has been very good.
  • Strawberries – Market short due to heavy rains in CA.
  • Peppers – Markets are steady overall; FL green pepper supplies remain high. Quality is good.

This Week’s Highlights – January 2, 2017

  • Broccoli – Markets are active and quality is fair with insect pressure, yellowing and mildew issues.
  • Cauliflower – Volumes are low from cold weather related growth issues. Quality is fair.
  • Lemons/Limes – Quality is good.
  • Oranges – Naval quality is excellent.
  • Cucumbers – Recent weather had a small affect on quality; supplies continue to be good on Selects and Supers.
